Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions people ask before a project starts. If yours is not here, ask it in the form and we will answer it directly.
Getting started
How a project begins, and what helps.
01How does a project start?
It starts with a conversation about your space and how you want it to work. From there the scope, design options and order of work are planned before anything is built.
02How do I request an estimate?
Send the form on the contact page or call. Tell us a little about the project and where it is, and we will get back to you to talk it through.
03Do you visit before giving an estimate?
Yes. We see the space in person before the scope and the estimate are put together, because a space is easier to understand in person.
04What should I have ready?
Photos of the space, rough measurements if you have them, pictures of spaces you like, and a list of what you want to change. None of it is required, but all of it helps.
Projects and pricing
What ABIA builds, and how a price is worked out.
01What kinds of projects do you take on?
Kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, whole-home remodeling, additions and new construction, commercial remodeling and commercial tenant improvements.
02How is the price worked out?
After we understand the space and the scope. The estimate reflects the work planned together with you, which is why there are no prices on this site: every project is different.
03How long will my project take?
It depends on the scope. The order of work and the schedule are set out in the planning stage, before any work starts, so you know what to expect.
04Do you help with design choices?
Yes. Layouts, finishes and design alternatives are talked through in the planning stage, while changes are still simple to make.
05Can we stay in our home during the work?
Often, yes. The order of work is planned around the household: which rooms stay usable, and when the disruptive work happens.
The work itself
Who is in charge, and how the city fits in.
01Who manages the project?
One team plans, coordinates and manages the work from the first conversation to the finished space. Alejandro Ibarra is the project contact.
02Will my project need city approval?
Some do, depending on the work: additions, structural changes and many commercial projects usually do. Where it is needed, city approval, plan review and meetings with the city come before construction starts.
03How will I know where the project stands?
Through regular updates during the build, and one person to ask whenever something comes up.
04Is ABIA a licensed contractor?
ABIA holds a City of San Antonio Residential Building Contractor license, number H929873.
Businesses
Commercial remodels and build-outs.
01Do you take on commercial work?
Yes. Interior remodeling for business spaces, scoped around how the space needs to work, and build-outs of leased commercial spaces.
02Can the work be scheduled around our business hours?
Where the project allows, yes. Phasing and working hours are settled in the planning stage, so the business knows what to expect.
03Can you work with our landlord on a build-out?
Yes. Build-outs often need the landlord's sign-off on plans. The work is planned so it fits the lease and the building's requirements.
