Overview

Business spaces built around how the business works

A commercial remodel has to fit around the business: how customers move through the space, where staff work, what the space says about the brand, and how much disruption day-to-day operations can take.

ABIA scopes commercial interiors around how the space needs to work, then plans, coordinates and manages the build, including the city approvals that commercial work often involves.

Project types

Three kinds of commercial project

  • Refresh

New finishes, lighting and fixtures in a space whose layout already works.

  • Reconfiguration

Walls, rooms and circulation reworked so the space fits how the business operates.

  • Full interior remodel

The interior taken back and rebuilt around the business.

How a project runs

How a commercial remodel runs

  1. 01Talk

We start with your space, your goals and how you want it to work, so the project is understood before anything is priced or planned.

  2. 02Plan

Scope, design options and the order of work are set out together, so you know what is being built and how it will come together.

  3. 03City Involvement

Where the work needs it, city approval, plan review and meetings with the city come before construction starts.

  4. 04Build

The work is coordinated and managed on site, with regular updates so you always know where the project stands.

  5. 05Finish

Final details are completed and the finished space is walked through with you before the project is closed out.

How each stage works

Why work with ABIA

  • One team, start to finish

The same team plans, coordinates and manages your project, so nothing is lost between the first conversation and the last detail.

  • Clear communication

You know what is happening, what comes next and who to ask, before, during and after the build.

  • Options before construction

Layouts, finishes and design alternatives are talked through early, while changes are still simple to make.

  • Craftsmanship you can see

Straight lines, clean transitions and finished details. The photographs on this site are the argument.

Questions

Commercial Remodeling: common questions

If yours is not here, ask it in the form and we will answer it directly.

All questions and answers
01Can the work be scheduled around our business hours?

Where the project allows, yes. Phasing and working hours are settled in the planning stage, so the business knows what to expect.

02Do commercial projects need city approval?

Many do. Where it is needed, plans, plan review and meetings with the city come before construction starts.

03What is the difference between a commercial remodel and a tenant improvement?

A commercial remodel reworks a space the business already uses or owns. A tenant improvement builds out a leased space, usually for a new tenant, often with the landlord involved.

04How does a commercial project start?

With a walk-through of the space and a conversation about how the business uses it: customers, staff, equipment and growth. The scope comes out of that.
