How a project runs

Five stages, one team

Every ABIA project follows the same five stages, managed by one team from the first conversation to the finished space. Here is what happens at each one, and what you get from it.

  1. Talk

We start with your space, your goals and how you want it to work, so the project is understood before anything is priced or planned.

The first conversation is about the space and the people who use it: what works, what does not, and what you want it to feel like when it is done. Photos, rough measurements and pictures you have saved all help. Then we visit, because a space is easier to understand in person.

    What you get

    • A clear picture of what you want to change
    • A visit to see the space in person
    • An honest first read on the scope
  2. Plan

Scope, design options and the order of work are set out together, so you know what is being built and how it will come together.

Layouts, finishes and design options are talked through while changes are still simple to make. The scope is written down, the order of work is set, and the estimate reflects exactly what is being built.

    What you get

    • A written scope
    • Design and finish options
    • The order of work and an estimate
  3. City Involvement

Where the work needs it, city approval, plan review and meetings with the city come before construction starts.

Not every project needs it. When one does, as additions, structural changes and many commercial projects do, the plans are prepared for review and the city process is taken care of before construction starts, so the build is not held up halfway through.

    What you get

    • Plans prepared for review
    • City approvals in place before building starts
    • One point of contact through the process
  4. Build

The work is coordinated and managed on site, with regular updates so you always know where the project stands.

One team coordinates the trades on site, so the work happens in the right order and nothing is done twice. You get regular updates on where the project stands and what comes next, and one person to ask when something comes up.

    What you get

    • Coordinated trades, in the right order
    • Regular updates
    • One person to ask
  5. Finish

Final details are completed and the finished space is walked through with you before the project is closed out.

The final details are completed, the site is cleaned up, and we walk through the finished space with you. Anything that is not right is noted and taken care of before the project is closed out.

    What you get

    • A walk-through of the finished space
    • Final details completed
    • A clean handover

What stays the same on every project

  • One team, start to finish

The same team plans, coordinates and manages your project, so nothing is lost between the first conversation and the last detail.

  • Clear communication

You know what is happening, what comes next and who to ask, before, during and after the build.

  • Options before construction

Layouts, finishes and design alternatives are talked through early, while changes are still simple to make.

  • Craftsmanship you can see

Straight lines, clean transitions and finished details. The photographs on this site are the argument.

Before the first conversation

What helps us from the start

None of it is required, but all of it helps us understand the space before we see it.

Start your project

Let's talk about your project.

Tell us what you want to change. We will follow up to talk it through and arrange a time to look at the space.
